FREE! What about the volunteers?

Okay . . .

First, I agree.  Let's go big, or let's go home.

Second, here's and issue that Johanna and I chatted about last week.  Trisha, chime in on this one! In our meeting, we talked about the fact that we value FREE in this town.  The museum is FREE.  The Kimball Art Center is FREE (incidentally, if you don't all show up on Saturday, March 8th for our Gala Arte Latino opening along with the Wasatch Student Back Show, I will be personally broken hearted), the trolley is FREE, the bus is FREE, there is FREE music all over. . .

BUT, it takes volunteers!  What if WE (and by we, I mean Micajah because God knows I can't do it technologically) created a forum/signup/SOMETHING (I don't know) for volunteers.  Here's the deal, we all volunteer.  So, let's figure out a way to spread the word . . . incidentally, if anyone would like to volunteer for the 2008 Park City Kimball Arts Festival please contact event@kimball-art.org --okay, that was a shameless plug.

Do I think this matters in the same way helping kids matters?  I dunno'.  And, I don't know how to go big with it.  But, it's a thought.

One more thing, if anyone wants to come to the Gallery Stroll on Friday night, Feb. 29th, email me at julieannhooker@gmail.com and I'll leave you passes.

You're all amazing. . .is it okay if I just hang onto your coattails for awhile?

Julie, I LOVE your idea! A central volunteer hub for the community. We could get the rides for the Latino families to soccer games, help with homework, art fest, marathon, etc., etc.
So many people want to volunteer and don't know where to turn.
Girlfriend, I think you're onto something GI-normous!

Hi Julie,

great idea!!!! All the non-profits in town would be so pleased, and it would help us A LOT!
I think there are a lot of programs for kids already, therefore it would be great to target a different group. We talked about teenagers, I think that would be great, but definitely challenging! Or as far as the Latino community goes, focus on adults. What is it that they want? How do they see PC? Might be totally different from our perceptions, might be very similar. I emailed Veronica Munroy, who is the manager at Parkside Apt, to see whether she has any ideas, or whether this is ever brought up by her tenants... I will let you all know once I hear from her.
Thank you all for your great ideas!!!

Love, Jo

This is an interesting idea, can cross a lot of categories, true there is no central location for needs/wants in this regard (how about a show on KPCW?); only issue I can see is: can 30 of us play a role? I do like it...maybe those of us who want to discuss these ever growing ideas should get together...a couple other concepts - Jo and I have scratched the surface of a wider historic preservation program (basin/county), I spoke to Swaner this morning they are unveiling their platinum level LEED certified "eco center" in the fall, they need more exposure awesome concept/real tool for education smack dab in the middle of our new urban center @ Kimball, a friend of mine has been telling me about communities that do "community gardens" SLC, New York...take vacant lots that are blighted and clean them up, turn them into functioning gardens...education, community participation, aesthetics...??? Sara,

I love the idea about community gardens. There is a few in SLC, and I have always loved the idea. Just couldn't find enough people to join. They even have a website: http://www.wasatchgardens.org/community.html
